Welcome to Hooked on Cycling holidays and our cycling holidays in Catalonia in Spain. This biking vacation in Spain we have graded as a level 2 self guided cycle tour. This bike tour is suitable for beginners although there are some short steep climbs. We can rent adult bikes and also tandems on tis tour. This cycling holiday is in the region of the Penedés which is a beautiful region South of Barcelona. Away from the crowded beachlines of Sitges you’ll find a quiet and authentic rural area where good wines and the famous Cava (champagne) is produced. The landscape has been compared with Tuscany and is really very suitable for a cycling tour. This trip starts in the mediaeval town of Montblanc made famous as the wine region El Priorat, passes along two impressive monasteries (Cistercienser) and ends near Villafranca the Penedés, only 30min drive from Barcelona. In the nice and comfortable last accommodation a car can be rented per day, so it is really a perfect place to book some extra nights.

Level 2 self guided tour
Day 1 Montblanc
Arrival at a typical hotel in Montblanc, which is famous for its good Catalonian cuisine. There are direct trains from Barcelona to Montblanc.
Day 2 Circular tour 22 miles 35km
Today a beautiful circular tour through the Priorat region , including a visit to the impressive romanesque-gotic monastery of Poblet; a jewel of Cistercienser art.
Day 3 Vilardida - Les Vinyes 19 miles 30km
After climbing slowly to the edge of the Montblanc plateau, you ‘sail down’ to your comfortable rural guesthouse in Les Vinyes, with a romantic indoor swimming pool. On your way another beautifull Cisterciencer monastery in Santa Creus.
Day 4
A circular tour in the surroundings of Les Vinyes. You can make it as long as you wish.
Day 5 Les Gunyoles d'Avinyonet 30 miles 50km
The longest ride of the entire trip takes you finally into the heart  of the Penedés, passing along beautifull little villages with modernistic buildings from the beginning of the 20th century. Your accommodation is an old village house which has been converted by a Dutch couple into a modern guest house with outdoor swimming pool; the perfect hide away within reach of Barcelona!
Day 6 22 miles 35km
Circular tour through the vineyards of el Penedés. Of course you should visit one of the cava bodegas, for example the bodega of the Codorniu family; 1km2 of subterranean caves beneath a beautiful modernistic building!
Day 7
Today you could make another circular tour in the surroundings of Villafranca del Penedés, a nice little town, or make a visit to Barcelona; only 30min away by car or train.
Day 8 Departure after breakfast
You can go back to Barcelona by train.
Accommodation: We have selected 3 good accommodations that offer ample rooms with central heating, air conditioning and of course private bathrooms. The first one is a typical fonda in the centre of the medieval town of Montblanc, known for its good cuisine. The other two are charming rural accommodations with private swimming pools. These guest houses offer occasionally dinners to guests, but you can also go out to enjoy a Catalan dinner (or lunch).

Fly low cost to Barcelona with Easyjet from Bristol , London , Liverpool and Newcastle and to Gerona with Ryanair from East Midlands , Blackpool , Glasgow and Bournmouth
Easy transfers by train/ bus from Barcelona to tour start.
