Welcome to Hooked on Cycling Holidays and our fabulous cycling holiday in Northern Spain. This cycling holiday in Northern Spain is available as a group based cycle tour on selected dates. The route of the cycling holiday starts south of Bilboa and the source of the River Ebro and then you cycle south following the river into the Rioja wine region. On this cycling holiday you will experience some wonderful scenery and be within and region little explored by tourists. We have graded this cycling tour as a level 2 tour as we believe it is suitable for both beginners and experienced cyclists.
GROUP TOURS STARTING 5th May 
Level 2
Day 1
Arrive into Bilboa or Santander airports and be transferred to Fontibre , you will be met by our bilingual guide on arrival.
Day 2 Fontibre to Polientes 28/53 miles ( 44 / 84 km)
Cycling from the green pastures of the Cantabrian Mountains , admire the superb scenery as you pass the shores of the Ebro Reservoir. Surrounded by forests the Monastery of Montesclaros springs into view.
Day 3 Polientes to Pesquera del Ebro 33 miles 53 km)
With Eagles and Vultures potentially soaring overhead cycle down the canyon which ever increases in size. Some villages and churches appear carved out of the cliff faces which are so characteristic of the area.
Day 4 Pesquera del Ebro to Quintana de Valdivielso 23/44 miles ( 37 / 71 km)
Now in a region where most tourist never reach , you will experience the true Northern Spanish culture as you cycle through minute picturesque villages..
Day 5 Quintana de Valdivielso to Frias 23/34 miles ( 37/54 km)
The Ebro valley now becomes wider but the scenery is still just as spectacular but giving you slightly different visual delights compared to the first few days cycling .Accommodation tonight is in chalet style rather than Hotel
Day 6 Frias to Haro 26/36 miles ( 41 / 58 km)
The route again narrows as you enter the canyon in front. On route there are plenty of places to stop and bathe in the Ebro before continuing on your journey. Now you enter the WINE producing region of La Rioja with its many Bodegas. Your chance now to sample the local wine.
Day 7 Haro to Laguardia 27 miles ( 43km)
A day cycling around the vineyards of La Rioja region. Sample the wines , the magnificent local food before reaching the medieval town of Laguadia.
Day 8 Laguardia
A day to do as you please , sight see with new found friends , wine and dine or if you must get a last days cycling exploring the wonderful roads around this area. Of course maybe all three activities appeal.
Day 9 Tour complete
Your tour is complete after breakfast with transfer back to Bilbao airport if needed.
