Welcome to Hooked on Cycling and our cycling holiday in Andalucia. This biking vacation in Andalusia is a self guided cycle tour. We have designed this cycling holiday for the more experienced cyclist and we have racing cycles to rent. We have graded this tour as a level 3 biking tour. Our cycling tour of some of the Moorish castles of ‘Al-Andalus’ begins in Alhama de Granada. Part of the Moorish kingdom ruled from the 7th to the 14th century. We shall the loop north to Montefrio , Priego de Cordoba, Iznajar before making our way back to Alhama de Granada. It is really an epic journey through time , on superb roads and wonderful scenery.
Cycling holiday in Andalusia

Day 1 Alhama de Granada
Arrive at either Granada or Malaga airport, where you can be picked up and transported to the historic town of Alhama de Granada. If you decide to make your ownCycling holiday in Andalucia way coaches are available from Malaga and Granada. Your accommodation here is normally the ‘Casasola’, a traditional Spanish hostal with original wine cellars (bodegas). It is beautifully maintained and professionally run, whilst still having that feel of a friendly family run hostal (Spanish hotel/Guest House).

Day 2 Lakeland loop 34 miles 54km
Our first ride takes us on a circuit of ‘Pantano de Los Bermejales’, a man made reservoir surrounded by five old villages. The route is 54km long, undulating with steady climbs and descents. The road surface is extremely good tar macadam and has stunning scenery.

Day 3 Alhama de Granada to Montefrio 40 miles 64km
Alhama to Montefrio takes us through traditional villages, on great country roads through olive groves via the castle and town of Illora to Montefrio.
Montefrio’s castle stands high above the town, explains why this settlement was the last to fall to the Spanish before Granada itself. Today Montefrio produces and Biking vacation in Andalusiaexports its famous virgin olive oil all over the world.

Day 4 Montefrio to Priego de Cordoba 54 miles 86km
Montefrio to Priego de Cordoba is a superb ride with gradual climbs and long sweeping descents through the historic cities of Alcala la Real and Alcaudete before arriving at Priego de Cordoba. A beautiful Spanish town, steeped in history which is retained in its many wonderful buildings, castle and fortifications. A great place to explore and spend a rest day.

Day 5 Rest day or Optional ride
Today is your chance to explore Priego de Cordoba on foot or if you wish to can head out on bike on your own ride around this wonderful region.

Day 6 Priego to Rute 49 miles 78km
Priego to Rute circles the ‘Parque Natural de la Sierra’ via, Doña Cycling holiday in SpainMencia, Cabra and Lucena to Rute, finishing at the ‘Mirador’ de Rute. A classy hotel sitting high above Lake Iznajar with amazing views makes a comfortable end to a fabulous days riding.

Day 7 Rute to Alhama de Granada 49 miles 78km
Our last ride sees us return to Alhama de Granada via the impressive Iznajar, another Moorish fortification built high above a lake and Ventorros de las Lagunas and Loja, a town with large castle and churches, the last of our Moorish strongholds before returning to Alhama.

Day 8 Departure
After breakfast departure by bus or by private transfer back to Malaga or Granada airports.
