Welcome to Hooked on Cycling and our cycling holiday in Italy through the region of Lombardy. Our Cycling holiday passes the great lakes of this region , the fantastic Lake Garda and Lake Como before finishing in the cosmopolitan city of Milan. This cycling holiday is available as a seven night self guided tour. We have graded this cycle tour as a level 2 tour as we believe it is suitable for beginners and also experienced cyclists. The Lombardy is the richest, most modern and densely populated of Italy’s regions. Anybody not familiar with the history of Lombardy, the culture, the monuments, art treasures and nature, the tour holds big surprises . The tour is on the whole very easy. Usually slightly hilly paths, mostly asphalted. You cycle on bicycle paths, side roads and country roads.

We explore Como with the bicycle (cathedral place with Broletto, cathedral and town-hall, as well as the beautiful and impressive Villa Olmo). The park grounds, the beautiful landscape and the location at the foot of the massif “Campo Fiori” are responsible for the towns special atmosphere.

Today we cycle along the lake Varese until we reach the lake Monate. Here we cycle easily downhill through the natural park of Ticino as far as Sesto Calende. A beautiful town with shore promenade at the end of Lago Maggiore, situated at the border to Piemonte.

Day 7  Sesto Calende to Milan 40 miles 65 kLombardy cycling holidaym
Today we follow the cycle path along the banks of the Ticino and reach Naviglio Grande, an old ship channel connecting Lago Maggiore and Milan since the twelfth century. In the big trade and industrial city, Milan, everything is modern and progressive. Technology, fashion, advertisement and design, life models and even “political experiments” – Milan is a trendsetter.

Behind the modern, dynamic, future-oriented metropolis the city hides former architectural and art treasures, such as the cathedral, the castle of the Sforza family, the Oper Scala and the picture gallery Brera.
