Welcome to Hooked on Cycling and our cycling holidays in Greece. This particular cycling holiday is a biking vacation exploring the Island of Rhodes. This cycle tour is a 7 night self guided bike tour on the Island of Rhodes. Welcome to Rhodes, the capital of the Dodecanese, an island which is ideal not only for those who want to relax but also for those looking for an action packed holiday! With its bright green hills, rich green valleys and uninterrupted line of golden beaches, Rhodes is truly a blessed place. Add in the excellent facilities for tourism, the island’s special blend of cosmopolitan and traditional and numerous cultural and archaeological sites and you’ve got the perfect holiday destination.
Its capital city, located at its northern tip, has a Medieval Town in its center. In 1988 the Medieval Town was designated as a Unesco World Heritage City. This town is the result of different architecture styles belonging to various historic eras, predominantly those of the Knights of St. John.

The area is the natural habitat of the Tiger Moth, a butterfly species. Visitors can witness a sBiking vacaiton on Rhodespectacular phenomenon which occurs only rarely in nature. Huge numbers of butterflies congregate in this small valley during the final stage of their life cycle. Every year, at the end of the wet season (late May), thousands of butterflies attracted by the scent of the Oriental Sweet gum trees cover the entire landscape. They are actually adult insects that follow the waterways and migrate here to reproduce. In the Valley of the Butterflies, there is a Museum of Natural History housed in a nicely restored Italian house of the 30s. You can opt for a short coastal version of this bike tour (31 km/19 miles) or a longer ride via Psinthos and Elousa (54 km/33 miles).

Your ride back to the accommodation is another 35 km (22 miles) but this still leaves you plenty of time to relax on the beach.

Round trip by bike to Kritinia and Embonas. This is the famous wine region of Rhodes, on the slopes of Mount Attaviros, the highest mountain of the island. This area is scarcely populated.
