Our cycling holiday in the wonderful French region is available as a self led tour which can be started on any day of the week. This region of France is a wonderful location for your French cycling holiday with major River valleys clad in green woods and forests. Often as though hanging from cliff edges you see many sandstone fortified villages. Great Chateaux and romantic ancient villages are just some of the delights to see on your French cycle tour.

Tour Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Gourdon , met by bilingual guide on arrival .
Day 2 Explore Rocamadour
A splendid pilgrimage route will lead you through a canyon to Rocamadour perched high on the hillside. Wonder at the historic town with its monastery and many ancient buildings . Cycling across the Gramat limestone plateau which is an arid region with specific flora , its a land of Orchids intermingled with ancient villages. Time appears to have no effect in this area. Shepherds stone huts called Cazelles are seen in the fields , these are some 3000 years old and are circular shape with conical roofs of flat stones .
Day 3 and Day 4 Explore the Dordogne valley
Ride down the Dordogne valley among other grand sites , a Byzantine abbeys in the heart of Souillac city , the Fenelon Castle , the Montfort look out castle and the banks of the river Dordogne and Larroque Gageac. Indeed this route cab be called the Castle route due to its high density of awesome castles. Some are now residences , others are fortified , some are museums . You will cycle through Les Eyzies which appears to be the capitol of prehistoric times with its caves and many prehistoric findings. Onto Vezere valley which is inscribed on the Worlds Heritage Site list , the scenery is breathtaking and its preserved due to its many historic findings of national and world interest.
Day 5 and Day 6
The Upper part of the Dordogne River is the border of the Quercy and Dordogne regions. You will see Lacave cave and Castle , fortified villages . The local castle which is the largest fortress in the south of France.
The chestnut grove area and its beautiful scenery is your cycling pleasure today. The Chestnut trees were actually introduced by the Romans 2000 years ago and are now what make this area famous. You will pass through more villages high on the hillside perched over rivers.
Day 7 Lot and Cele Valleys
Cycling onto the Lot and Cele river valleys which are surrounded by Limestone cliffs . More Castles one which is extremely narrow you will pass today. St. Cirq lapopie is a village hanging over the river Lot as it clings to the cliff face. The ancient houses rise up over the rocky slope and are protected by the 500 year old church.
Day 8
Your tour is complete after breakfast . Finish location is Figeac or Gourdon

How to get there By Car To Gourdon where car parking is available By Plane By Plane to Toulouse airport where on arrival transfers by train By Train To Gourdon station which is connected to Paris Austerlitz station and serviced by high speed TGV Train , Paris to Gourdon in approx. 3.5 hours.
