Welcome to Hooked on Cycling Holidays and our cycling holidays in Finland. This biking vacation in Finland is a level 2 self guided cycle tour. Finland is the land of the mid night sun and this is what we have called this tour. This cycle tour in Finland is a magnificent combination of culture, nature, history and sea! You’ll experience the dynamic capital of Finland (Helsinki), the picturesque Porvoo, the harmony of countryside, tranquil waterways and green forests. Routes with ever changing views and nice variation. The route is designed so that you can even take a day off in between. From Helsinki to Porvoo there’s a possibility to take a boat and enjoy the day at the sea. Or in Porvoo you can spend the day wandering around the old town and river banks. And the following day you can continue exploring the Finnish wonderland by bike.

Day 1 Arrival to Helsinki on Tuesdays or SaturdaysFinland Cycle Tour

Day 2 Helsinki City Centre – Porvoo 34 miles 55 km
From the hotel you start heading eastward pedaling through the very heart of Helsinki. From the Market Place the journey follows the first 16 km’s the sea front passing marinas, villas and residential areas. After Vartiokylä you take road 170 all the way to Porvoo. Soon on the right side about 1 km from the main road there’s Östersundom church, this small wooden chapel is worth of visiting.  Just before Söderkulla you can make a stop at Keidas café for a small break. Söderkulla is small and modern village where you can find various services. In Söderkulla the cycle path comes to an end and you continue along road 170. In Kullo the route makes a deviation to a small nice country road. There you find a perfect place for lunch at Kullo Golf Club restaurant. Little bit further you come to Kullo Manor. From the manor you follow a dirt road through fields and forests coming back to road 170. At the crossing you turn right and do the last 10 km’s to the idyllic town of Porvoo. The hotel is right in the middle of the town.
If you want to relax and enjoy a day on the sea, you can take a boat all the way from Helsinki to Porvoo. A traditional passenger ship (built in 1912) cruises through the enchanting eastern archipelaBiking vacation in Finlandgo to the heart of Porvoo in four hours. Just take your bike onboard, but a reservation has to be made beforehand.

Day 3 History, nature and sea – a day tour from Porvoo 19 miles 30 km
On the next day you will start at riverside and head to southwest towards the island of Emäsalo. First you cross the river along the bridge in Aleksanterinkatu and then turn immediately left to Kokonniementie following sea front towards Hamari. In Hamari you can enjoy the sea breeze at the harbor café. From there you continue towards Haikko, Tolkkinen and finally reaching the EmäsaloBridge. Passing the bridge on the left side there’s is small road that leads to kiosk under the bridge. All the way back to Porvoo you follow Tolkkistentie (Road 1543).
During this day trip you can visit the Haikko Manor and the studio of Albert Edelfelt. The studio of the first internationally famous Finnish painter was built in 1883. From the 300-metre EmäsaloBridge you can admire the splendid views and take a break on either side of the channel. It is an excellent place to have picnic before you head back to the old town of Porvoo.

Day 4 Porvoo – Tuusula Lake 25 miles 40 km
On leaving Porvoo take a short detour to the Old Railway Station area, with its shops, art exhibitions and café. Then you take Helsingintie, then turn rigSelf guided cycle tour in Finlandht to Läntinen Mannerheiminväylä. Go under the motorway until you’ll reach a roundabout where you turn left towards Hinthaara. Ride the nice and curvy countryroads (1531 and 148) until you reach the old church of Sipoo. After visiting the church you can take a break in Nikkilä, which is one of Sipoo’s commercial centers. From Nikkilä you continue along Martinkyläntie and through the centre of Kerava. Then take Tuusulantie all the way to lake, where you’ll find the hotel.
The country roads are ideal for an enjoyable ride. On the way you can visit the lovely medieval stone church of Sipoo and before reaching the LakeTuusula you will cycle through Kerava, which is one of the satellite towns of Helsinki.

Day 5 TuusulaLake – Tikkurila 22 miles 35 km
From the hotel you head north along Rantatie towards Järvenpää, on Rantatie there are lots of sights. The route runs following the shore with the Järvenpää town centre on the right. On our way round the lake we turn towards Vanhankylänniemi, Paijala and finally Lahela. From there you take Maisalantie to Vanha Tuusulantie, where you turn right. After few kilometers you’ll see a sign to Tikkurila to your left. The hotel is located right next to the railway station.
The TuusulaLake is quite small, but it offers plenty to see, such as the unique artistic community from the beginning of the 20th century and the winding shore road on the east side of lake. Among other premier artists of the era, the world-famous Finnish composer Jean Sibelius had his home Ainola here.

Day 6 Tikkurila – Helsinki 25 kmCycling holiday  in Finland
You’ll find the cycle path on the other side of the river (next to the science center), few hundred meters south from the hotel. Take the path to your right; follow the east banks of KeravaRiver (later VantaaRiver) until Tuomarinkylä. There you cross the river and on the opposite side you’ll find a nice restaurant at the TuomarinkylänMansion. From there the route follows along the river to Arabianranta and finally to the city centre.
In the morning before hopping on the bike again you can visit the Finnish Science Centre, Heureka, which has one of the most up-to-date digital planetariums in Europe. On the way to Helsinki while enjoying nature and avoiding all the big roads you’ll see nice residential areas. Be surprised how green Helsinki really is. The tour ends in Helsinki, where you can return your bike and enjoy the long night of the lively Capital of Finland.
