Welcome to Hooked on Cycling holidays and our cycling holidays in Austria. This biking vacation is a bike and boat tour. On a boat and bike tour your hotel is a wonderful ship the MS THEODOR KÖRNER. This cycling holiday is a self guided bike tour which we have graded as level 1 tour. Of course there is no need to cycle making this holiday ideal for non cycling partners and also families. Cycling along the Danube is a very special pleasure because on this tour the hotel is always with you! Always gently downhill, mostly with a helpful tailwind you are experiencing the impressive river. Such delights of the Donauschlinge (“Great Loop”), the gorgeous landscape of the legendary Wachau. untouched woods of the National Park Donauauen (”Danube Meadow”), Bratislava, the former city of Hungarian kings awaits you. This is a wonderful , 3 country tour , Germany , Austria and Slovakia. Bratislava is surmounted by an impressive medieval fortress with four towers. The affectionately restored old town with numerous sights and cosy pavement coffee bars. Then there is Vienna with sights like St. Stephen´s Cathedral, the town hall or the Riesenrad (Ferris wheel) are close to reach during a sight-seeing tour by bike.

Day 1 Arrival to PassauBike and Boat Danube

Passua is the “Bishop-City” which is embedded between the 3 rivers Inn, Ilz and the Danube, close to the Bavarian/Austrian border. You will Embark at 5 p.m. and in the evening a welcome cocktail and dinner with live music.

Day 2 Passau – Schlögen - Linz 30 miles 50 km

Downstream, the way leads you to pretty villages amid natural landscape. If you need a boost! you can try some of the special cordials and liquers in the Trappist monastery in Engelszell. Supposedly they have special healing powers. Let yourself relax on the sun deck after a successful day while the ship takes you through the romantic Schlögener loop, where the river makes a very abrupt 180 degree turn. And after dinner, ride on the bright yellow City-Express (facultative) and discover Linz, the capital of upper Austria. This sight-seeing tour of Linz is optional.

Day 3  Mauthausen - Grein 23 miles 36 kmCycle and cruise River danube

Today’s bike tour takes you directly along the Danube where you will have enough time to enjoy the natural meadow landscape. Soon you will reach the celtic town of Mitterkirchen which gives you an insight of past times. The alternative route to Clam Castle through the beautiful back country of the “Strudengau” is slightly hilly, but a fantastic landscape. Grein is the destination of today’s stage, the place of Austria’s oldest city theatre and the Castle of Grein. A visit of Austria’s oldest theatre is optional.

Day 4 Grein – Melk 31 miles 51 km

Today’s stage is marked by a diversified landscape. At the beginning there is the Strudengau, a narrow point of the Danube which used to be notorious amongst skippers. Then the valley expands from Persenbeug and the bike tour leads you further to Melk with its gorgeous baroque monastery of the Benedictine monk hood. On deck you enjoy the sunset and the beautiful evening illumination of the Wachau. In the early morning you will arrive at the City of Waltz.Cycling holiday in Austria

Day 5 Vienna to Bratislava 35-46 miles 55 – 75 km

At the National Park Donauauen you can experience pure nature, wild and untamed. Accompanied by the sound of birds you cycle through mystic alluvial forests and an unique paradise of nature. Sporty bikers will take the challenge and bike all way through. One can also shorten the distance by using train (optional). Bratislava is the destination of the ride and during a walkabout in the evening (optional) you can discover the fondly restored Old Town and all the sights of this ambitious metropolis. At night the cruise takes you back to Vienna.

Day 6 Vienna (day of rest)

City tours by bike or bus, Waltz Concert (optional)
You can discover this city of vitality during a sight-seeing tour by bike or bus. The most famous places of interest like Prater, St. Stephens Cathedral and the Hofburg are slowly passing by. The gorgeous boulevard Ringstraße with Burgtheater, State Opera House and town hall reminds one of the past. There is enough time in the afternoon to stroll or visit one of the famous viennese coffee bars. The evening ends impressively with a Waltz and Opera Concert atBike vacation in Austria the Wiener Kursalon (optional) or at a wine tavern.

Day 7 Wachau - Krems-Emmersdorf 22.5 miles 36 km

Your last bike tour is a special highlight! Affected by small dreamy towns, apricot trees, vineyards, castles, monasteries and ruins this hilly landscape is enchanting everybody. This is pure biking enjoyment! In Spitz you will find comfy wine taverns directly besides the bike path. You owe it to yourself to take a break! After a ceremonial gala dinner lots of fun and entertainment can be experienced during a folklore show .

Day 8 Passau

Every journey draws to an end. Once again you enjoy on deck the first sunbeams and the peaceful silence of the Danube Valley. Take a last sight at the Schlögener Schlinge before you arrive relaxed at Passau. Disembarkment at around 2:30 p.m. Bike and boat River Danube

The MS THEODOR KÖRNER is a very spacious ship of traditional shipbuilding skill with a very comfy and nostalgic atmosphere. It is imperative on board that the guest is king! The crew members will anticipate every wish and  therefore, make a contribution to the unbelievable success of this voyage. Your bike-cruise through various countries is also a culinary expedition through the diversity of the national and the regional cuisine, a musician will peTheodor%20Kornerrform in the evening for dancing.

The ship offers a Restaurant, a Panorama-Bar, a Viennese Coffee Bar with sunny patio as well as a broad sun deck with comfortable deck-chairs. Books and magazines of our library provide relaxation and reading pleasure.

The dignified furnished cabins are cosy, rustic, approx. 9-10 sqm big and equipped with either 2 adjoined beds (2-Bed-Cabin) or with bunk beds (Double-Cabin), en suite (shower and toilet), TV, radio and air condition.
